Taking Care of Your Eyesight

It’s all too easy to take your eyesight for granted, but the eyes are sensitive tools! The following are some tips on how to take care of your vision throughout your life.

Eat right

Look for foods that contain vitamin C, vitamin E, omega 3 fatty acids, zinc, and lutein. This diet will help you avoid cataracts and other vision problems related to growing older. Foods you should be eating:

  • Oily fish like tuna and salmon
  • Collards, kale, spinach, and other green leafy vegetables
  • Nuts, eggs, and beans
  • Citrus fruits and juices

Say no to smoking

Smoking puts you at higher risk of vision-related problems like cataracts, macular degeneration, and optic nerve damage. Kicking the habit does wonders to keep your eyes safe from harm.

Wear the Right Pair of Sunglasses

Keep your eyes protected from those harmful ultraviolet rays. The sun’s rays can increase the risks of macular degeneration and cataracts. Get sunglasses that are able to block one hundred percent of both UVA and UVB rays.

Avoid staring at screens for too long

That’s right – heed your mother’s advice. Staring at screens for long periods could lead to eyestrain, dry eye, blurry vision, headaches, and difficulty focusing at a distance. Get regular eye exams
