Several dedicated eyelid scrubs are on the market today. While you have options, and your ophthalmologist could probably make recommendations for which scrubs are better than others, you can make your own with simple ingredients. The ingredients you will need to get started are a clean washcloth or Q-Tip®, warm water, and baby shampoo. Here’s how to make and use your do-it-yourself eyelid scrub:
One – Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Soak a clean washcloth (a Q-Tip®, may be used in place of the washcloth, which may be a gentler option if you have marked inflammation) in warm water.
Two – Apply a small amount of baby shampoo to the washcloth. Close one eye and gently rub the base of your eyelashes with the warm washcloth or Q-Tip®, to cleanse the entire area using caution. Do this for one minute.
Three – Carefully rinse your entire eyelid with clean, cool water. Repeat with your other eye, using a clean washcloth or Q-Tip®,. Remember always use a clean washcloth for each eye to avoid spreading germs or bacteria from one eye to the other.
